My First Ipsy Glam Bag! Photographs, Review

Hello gentle readers.

Well, it had to happen, eventually. I have been seeing all of the great goodies all of my fellow beauty bloggers have been scoring in their Ipsy Glam Bags and I finally caved and decided to sign up for my own subscription.

If you aren't familiar with Ipsy, it is a monthly subscription service that costs ten dollars a month, including shipping and you receive a little theme makeup bag and four or five sample to full sized beauty products. The products can be skin care, makeup, nail polish or hair care.

Signing up for the Ipsy Glam Bag Subscription Service only takes a few minutes and includes a quick quiz to get an idea about your personal preferences so that Ipsy can send bags that will be more to your taste. There is no guarantee that you will love everything, every month, of course but by filling out the quiz and by doing the monthly pop up reviews, you can further refine your preferences. I am still getting the hang of everything that goes on on their website. But I'm a bit slow about that kind of thing. You will probably just jump right in. You can also accumulate Ipsy Points which, I believe, you can redeem for goodies. I am beginning to rack up a few points. I wouldn't mind earning some goodies.

This month, the theme is Destination Beauty, taking us on a trip to Palette Island. (Hey, I'm not the one who made that up, it was on the card that came in my bag. So don't shoot the messenger.) My bag contained four products, two deluxe samples and two full sized products.

The bag is a soft, vinyl envelope style zip closure makeup bag in a fun, artist inspired print. Idiot that I am, I tossed the hang tag that detailed the artist's name and details. I like the print and I will definitely enjoy using this bag. Now, I hear a lot of griping about Ipsy makeup bags being smelly or stinky. This bag is neither. It did smell lightly of vinyl off gassing but after it was sitting out for a day or so that dissipated. It certainly wasn't smelly or stinky.

The contents of my Ipsy Glam Bag:

Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer, Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready, Be a... Bombshell Eye Shadow Quad in in Bora Bora and Nicole By OPI Roughies Nail Enamel in On What Grounds?

There is no swatch of the Pixi primer. This is a deluxe sample size tube. You can purchase this at Target in a one ounce pump bottle for $22.00.  It contains chemical sunscreen and I can't put it on my skin so I just left it unopened so I can pass it along to someone who can use it and enjoy it. I don't own any other Pixi products. I should get to Target and pick up a few, give them a whirl, I suppose.

The Be a... Bombshell Eye Shadow Quad in Bora Bora (full size) $16.00. Shades are, from the top, running clockwise, Starlet, A warm, medium brown shimmer. Bora Bora, A Caribbean blue shimmer. Rock Bottom, gold shimmer and Risky Business, a copper shimmer.

The eye shadows, swatched. All four are shimmers, soft, velvety and smooth with very nice pigmentation and colour payoff. They apply and blend very nicely without much fallout or going muddy. This is a nice little quad of eye shadows. This is my first experience with Be a... Bombshell. I think that I need to explore further. If the rest of their line is as nice as this shadow quad, I could really like their makeup.

Nicole by OPI Roughies: On What Grounds? Now, we all know that this is Liquid Sand, right? With the addition of dark blue small matte glitter pieces. This Robin's egg blue textured polish is right on for Spring and Summer. Application is easy and smooth and pleasant. It is a touch streaky on the first coat, perfect, even and opaque by the second. Dry time, as with all Liqui I mean Roughies is quick but give it a little cure time before you slap it around. I would buy more Nicole by OPI Roughies if I were enchanted by the colour.

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready: $18.00. This deluxe Sample sized lipstick is surprisingly generous and will last me longer than I thought it would. The shade is a beautiful, neutral pink rose, the texture is lightweight, soft and very smooth. The finish is silky. It is a (get ready for it) my lips but better shade. The feel is very light and comfortable and it isn't drying. Wear time isn't stellar. I don't expect it to be, with a lipstick of this type and since I don't have an aversion to touching up and re applying, I don't mind. I would definitely consider buying this brand in full size.

Swatch of Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie In Get Ready. How pretty is this lipstick? Enough pigmentation to brighten the lips and the face but not so bright that it wouldn't be wearable just about anywhere. I could see this lipstick flattering a lot of people.

All in all, I am tickled pink with my first Ipsy Glam Bag. If they keep on being as good as this first one, Ipsy and I are going to enjoy a long, happy and satisfying relationship.

If you have been thinking that Ipsy looks like fun, that you might like to sign up, You can click my link to sign up (if you sign up through my link I receive points that I can redeem for goodies, apparently) or you can go to Ipsy dot com and sign up. I am happy, either way. When I signed up I was placed in a waiting list then given the opportunity to hop off by sharing that I had signed up with Ipsy on Facebook, which I opted to do. I was hopped off the wait list and received the next bag that was scheduled to ship. The whole wait list, hop off thing felt a bit gimmicky to me, I understand the motivation behind it but I do feel it is a little silly. Just sign people up and let's rock and roll. Ah, promotion.

Do you do Ipsy? What do you think of it? Like? Love? What are some of your favorite goodies received from this subscription service? Please do tell.

Thank you so much for coming by and reading and have a lovely day!

  2. What a great bag for the month. Really liking that eyeshadow quad and nail polish you received. I'm still on the fence on whether to subscribe to this beauty bag though. I'm from Canada so I have to pay a bit more for shipping which sucks and sometimes, it seems like a miss or hit thing on the items you might get too.

  3. it's unfair that you have to pay so much extra. Especially considering how close we are with and to Canada. It's silly. The bags can be hit or miss. This was my first one, we'll see how future ones stack up. :)

  6. You got my dream bag! I love the Moxie lippie, it's a gorgeous color on me, too. I may have to buy that quad - Ipsy gives us coupons for many of the products in the bags, and Be A Bombshell has one for 40% off this bag. It's so pretty!

  10. So far, I love Ipsy, also. :D I am so glad that I received this palette, too. NYX is okay, but to be honest, I'm not the wildest over their shadows. Be a Bombshell has much better eye shadow.

  13. It was the lipstick that got you, wasn't it? Hee! Hee!

They had a rough start. I thought that they'd go under, now they are thriving and putting out great bags. I hope that they keep it up. So far, I am a happy customer.

  14. I am really happy that I did, too. :D As long as they keep putting out good product, they will have me. I'm sorry that you didn't get the polish. It's really pretty, that blue is fab, it's worth hunting down, locally. Try your local CVS, Rite Aid and Target sotres. They usually carry Nicole by OPI. :)
