Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers. How was your weekend? Mine was cold and snowy.

Blech! 'Nuff of the white stuff, already! When is that frakking groundhog going to keep his promise of an early Spring? If he lied, I have a stew pot with his name on it.

Today's nails are brought to you by the letters C and C. Color Club Red Velvet from last Fall's Untamed Luxury Collection. This polish is like China Glaze Lubu Heel's slightly dorky younger cousin. A black jelly packed with red glitter, it looks vampy indoors and then fires and sparkles in bright light and sun. This polish has a pretty nice formula, is easy to control and is opaque in two coats. The first coat is a little streaky and thin, the second smooths everything out and covers like a champ. It dries not very shiny and pretty gritty. I topped it with one coat of Seche Vite and it really could have used two as it still feels a little bumpy. Dry time was decent. While it does resemble it's China Glaze cousin, it doesn't feel quite as rich, warm and sophisticated as Lubu Heels, to me. But I still like it.

Hmmm... Methinks that perhaps it is time to do a comparison? I might just have to, when it is time to change this manicure. :D

Want to know what is freaking me out? The fact that I am actually getting enough polishes in my little collection to have some that I could do comparisons. I have a few more that I want to compare in the future.

Okay, now on to the real reason we are all here. Pictures. These were all taken in direct afternoon sun.

Boy, I really managed to smudge the hell out of that bottle with my cuticle oil, didn't I? *sigh* How do you polish mavens manage to moisturise and oil your cuticles and not get your bottle all smeary? Share your secret, please?

I must have missed something around here... Where is Nicole (Magic Maid)? I hadn't seen an update of her blog come up on my blogroll, and when I tried to click on it in my blogroll to go and see if she left a message of some kind, I got some weird search/ad page. Is she okay? Did she decide to stop blogging or start a different blog? She is a nice gal and had a great blog and it is concerning that she just stopped posting. If anyone knows something and can share without compromising a confidence, could you drop me a comment?

Okay, so I think I will go grab me some dinner. I have a hankering for a Morningstar Farms spicy black bean burger...

I am going to draw the winners of my Purplex giveaway in the next day or two. Hopefully, I will have time to get to it, tomorrow.

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a terrific evening and may your polish never bubble.

Back to Shortie Town *sigh*

Hello gentle readers. How has your week been? Mine has somewhat sucked. But I think it is getting better. Taking some extra time to pamper myself today has helped my attitude and outlook on life.

I locked myself in my little suite downstairs and gave myself a really nice pedicure, complete with cuticle remover around my toenails (wow! what an improvement! lol) removed a little dry skin I had, shaped and buffed my toenails. Then I painted them with three coats of Essie Adore-a-Ball, a milky whisper soft pink jelly that needed all three coats! It went on a little streaky and left some bald patches on the first two. I topped it all with Seche, let it dry a minute then added pretty delicate pink sticker decals I received from Born Pretty Store to my big toe nails, then another coat of Seche. I am pretty happy with how it looks. It feels nice to have soft, nice looking feet and pretty toenails. Don't worry, no pictures. lol I now that feet make some readers uncomfortable, so I won't do that to you, right now.

After my pedicure was done, my nails were looking a little beat up so while I was waiting for my toe polish to dry, I decided to soak off my glitter, really quick and slap on a fast coat of base coat before I jumped in the shower. Well... That didn't exactly work out a I expected. Soaking off my glitter also soaked off my patches. All of them. And, much to my dismay I discovered that where those patches used to live were tips that were in terrible shape. I considered doing all those patches, again but my poor nails looked beat to shit. There were glued cracks stained with old polish and... I could have nursed them along for a while longer with more patches but I knew what I needed to do. I grabbed my grinder and got to it. I refined the shape and smoothed them with my crystal file and buffer and they look so much better. I only have one patch, now. I have a nasty tear where my free edge meets my cuticle on my right ring finger nail. I didn't want to take them all down to nothing, so I had to patch that one.

I polished my new shorties with Zoya Kelly. Golly, this polish is gorgeous. Grey creme. Insanely shiny even without top coat. But, I was raised right and I don't go out without it. :D Two coats to opaque perfection. I imagine that a championship polisher could get the job done in one... I can't. lol This polish surprised me with how bratty it is. It doesn't like to be overworked or fussed with. It wants to go on fast, smooth, in as few strokes and as thick as possible. Until I learned how to handle it, this polish streaked, dragged and bubbled. The second coat made things much better and Seche finished it all off perfectly. I like this polish, pain in the keester that it was and I think it looks smashing on my new shorties.

 Taken in setting sun.

In shade. Look how shiny and glossy :D
So, what do you think about Zoya Kelly? Do you own it? Love it? Is it as bratty to you as it is to me? Maybe I should have given it a time out. But then, I may not have finished painting my nails before the sun went down.

I wanted to remind my readers that tomorrow is the last day to enter my Revlon Purplex Giveaway. Two winners will each receive a bottle of Revlon Purplex.

Manicure of the Moment With a Video

Hello gentle readers.

Today I have a sparkly bunch of purple fun in the form of Milani One Coat Glitter in Purple Gleam. This is a black base packed to the rafters with purple glitter that is supposed to cover completely in one coat. Uh... Thanks to my slightly inconsistent application technique, that wasn't entirely true. If you can apply one coat like a champ, this is a one coater. I probably could have just touched up a few spots, applied top coat and called it good. But I believe in overkill. So I applied a second full coat.

This stuff goes on thick, is gritty and dries matte. It needs top coat to smooth it and bring on the shine. I applied one coat of Seche, I could have used two, it is still a touch grainy. But it is nice and shiny and sparkly. I applied sticker decals; I gouged my polish on my right ring finger nail so I pushed it all back together, smoothed it and covered the mar with a decal sticker I received from Born Pretty Store. Then I added a matching decal to my left ring finger nail to make the whole thing look deliberate. These decal stickers are really pretty and easy to apply. We'll see how well they wear. :)

This polish applied easily. It is very controllable and I needed minimal cleanup in just a couple of spots. (That must be a record for me! lol) Dry time is good. This shade seems to work nicely with my skin tone. I think I have a winner, here. I purchased this polish at my local CVS around the Holidays. It was part of a glitter collection, most of which I snapped up like a greedy child grabbing and pocketing cookies. They don't seem to be available in drugstores, any longer (tho you might get lucky, in your area) but they can be found at Cherry Culture.

Would you like to see pictures and a sparkly little movie? All shots were taken in direct sun.

When removal time comes I have a feeling I am going to be wearing acetone, cotton pads and foil for a week. lol

Do you own this polish? Love it? If you don't, have you been suitably enabled to buy it?

Oh! Say, don't forget to enter my little Revlon Purplex giveaway. Two winners will each receive a bottle of that pretty and now kind of hard to find polish. There are just a few days left to enter.

Time for me to run along. Thank you so very much for popping in. It means so much to me that people actually like to come by and read this blog. I appreciate each and every one of you for that. Have a terrific evening, stay warm and may your polish never bubble.

Decals used in this post were sent to me by the company for consideration and a fair and honest review.

Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers. How is your weekend? So far, mine is kind of blowing big green ones. It is snowing here. Hard. And it is piling up fast. Blarg! I hate snow! Do not want! It rained last night and earlier today and it was wonderful. But this damned white stuff can go back from whence it came.

My husband is on call this weekend and he is running around like a chicken with it's head cut off putting out fires, fielding calls left, right and center and trying to keep peoples service up and running. Oh well... Overtime is his friend. We can use the money.

Okay, so. Now that I am done nattering let me get to the reason for today's post. OPI Yogata Get This Blue from OPI's India Collection. Oh my freaking gosh! This colour is stunning. This isn't your typical dark blue with a shimmer, yawn. This is cobalt blue jelly full of shimmer and duochrome. This polish has a special, glow-y quality that is visible when you are looking at it in person that sadly eludes my camera lens.

No sunshine, today so photos are just meh. But I did my best. :P

Diffused cloudy daylight through my window. Nice camera reflection, huh? ;P

With flash. Lookie the shimmer and duochrome yumminess.

With flash. More shimmer and duochrome that freaks my camera out. lol

By my bathroom lights. They play up the polish nicely but make my skin look sick. And people wonder why I would never, ever apply my makeup in there! lol

Outdoors in the snow. Brrr! You can see the squishy quality in this picture.

One more outdoor shot. Of the polish and my camera. *sigh* Where is my sunshine?

The formula is beautiful. I had opaque coverage in two easy coats. This polish was an eensy bit thin and runny, it wanted to try to flood my cuticles. I did cleanup as I applied to prevent cuticle staining, as this polish is highly pigmented. Dry time is respectable. Seche on top makes this insanely shiny. I like insanely shiny. :D

Another winner. I love this polish.

Okay, I must motor. I am busy and I think it is time for a late lunch. My stomach is shouting to be fed. Thank you so much for popping in. Have a great day, stay warm and may your polish never bubble.

Manicure of the Moment

Hello gentle readers.

Today I have a long time longed for polish to show you. It certainly isn't anything new and has been seen and compared all over the blogs. If you are sick of it, I apologise. But I am not. Sick of it. I have wanted this polish since it was released last Fall and I finally found it and am so happy to be able to show it here.

Revlon Purplex. Greyed purple creme with a beautiful shimmer that fires in bright light and in the sun. Opaque in two coats, this polish is fairly easy to apply. It tends to be a little runny and wanted to flood my cuticles so I had a little cleaning up to do as I went along. Dry time is not too bad. I topped this with Seche.

All pictures were taken in direct sun. I had some pretty shade shots but there were too many reflections of my hand and camera in them. One small thing wrong with shiny polish, I guess. lol
I had to wait a long time to get this polish. Now that I have it on my nails, it was definitely worth it. This colour is gorgeous and in my humble opinion is every bit as pretty as it's highbrow cousin. :)

If you are lemming this polish, if you can't find it or just want a backup bottle and are kicking yourself because you didn't grab one when you could have, please enter my giveaway. Two followers will each win a bottle of this oh-so-pretty polish.

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a wonderful evening and may your polish never bubble.

Pink Funky Little Valentine Nails and Naked Pictures

Hello gentle readers.

Today my pink Valentine's kick continued with a funky little Valentine look with OPI Flower to Flower from last Summer's collection and some decals and jelly hearts I picked up at a local drugstore. I applied three coats of Flower to Flower, a pretty, intense fuchsia pink with a subtle silver shimmer that glows and fires softly in sunlight.

I had to apply three coats because this polish, while pretty is a brat. It was streaky, left bald spots and generally fought me tooth and nail. Something I am not accustomed to when working with an OPI polish. I applied my decals, then noticed that some of my nails were doing some pretty alarming bubbling. Ack! I thought at that point I would have to clean it all off and start over, so thinking my mani was toast, anyway I grabbed a bottle of Dare to Wear topcoat I won in a giveaway and decided to give it a test drive. As a topcoat, it didn't perform all that well. It was thin and not very shiny.

But! Amazingly enough, it smoothed out all of the bubbles in my polish! Holy shitballs! I went from "Great, now I have to re do my nails!" to "Hey, my nails look great!" in the matter of just a few minutes. I need to try this stuff on a few more bubbly polish jobs before I can state that it is a bubble smoothing wonder polish, but so far, I am pretty happy.

I topped everything with Seche. :)

If you enlarge, you will see the loverly shimmer. And, look, mom! No bubbles!
I apologise for my not so hot photographs, my camera batteries were dying and I had to fire off as many shots as I could, as fast as I could. I wasn't able to take a lot of time to futz around. lol

Okay, I took some naked pictures today, as well. Get your mind out of the gutter and one handed surfers, move along. I am talking about my nails. Not my bod. Trust me, that isn't something anyone wants or needs to see... ;) lol

So, here are my nekkid nails, with a coat of China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat. So, I guess that they aren't technically naked, still...

You can see the patches on my middle, ring and pinkie finger nails. Sigh... Stupid delicate nails.
I don't actually use that Orly Tough Cookie. I tried it a few times and my nails started chipping. Coinkeedink? I am afraid that stuff dries my nails out. I might just dump the treatment and use the bottle for a franken.

Okay, there you have it. Pink nails, funky decals, no bubbles and nudity. What more could we want in one nail blog posting?

Please don't forget to enter my Purplex giveaway. Two lucky duckies will win a bottle of Revlon Purplex.

Mmm... I am beginning to be able to smell dinner. I am baking boneless, skinless chicken breasts and potatoes. I'll serve them with a fresh green salad and some corn and baby peas. Nom, nom, nom.

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a great evening and may your polish never bubble.

Pink Hearts and Silver Kisses

Hello gentle readers. I hope you are all having a great Tuesday.

Today's manicure is an Ode to a Pink Valentine's Day. This deceptively simple looking mani was actually a huge pain in the arse. I started with a Color Club pink that has no name. It is a Barbie pink jelly. Pretty. Very squishy. Also very streaky. This beauty took a full three coats to get smooth and even and opaque. I topped it with Seche and let it dry a bit before I got going on the decorations. After a lot of trial and error with red and intense pink striping polish and my BM plates, I was about to give up on stamping. Bah! I noticed that the glitter I was planning to use had some silver goodness, so I stamped my chosen images with China Glaze Millennium on my accent nails.

After my images were dry I coated them lightly with topcoat, placed little pink stones at the corner of the lips then got on with the glitter. I used Nicole Love Your Life. Clear jelly base with fine multicoloured and silver and gold glitter and heart pieces. That stuff is a major pain in the butt! The base and fine glitter applied just fine but getting the hearts... Bleargh! I have spent less time at a fishing hole catching a lunker than I have spent fishing those danged hearts out of the bottle to place them on my nails. Oh! tip... When fishing glitter chunks, lay the heart/star/whatever on your paper towel and wipe it with your finger before picking it up with a toothpick and placing it on your nail. This prevents the gloppy heart in a glop of polish mess that otherwise results. Okay, you probably already knew that! lol I put the hearts on all but my accent nails.

After I finally had everything done, I topped it all with another coat of Seche. Whew! But I am pretty happy with what I came up with. All decorated in the sun.

My base colour, my un named Color Club pink. In sun and shade. Look how squishy. :D I like this polish, even tho it does require three coats.

Okay, I need to rant a little. Polish companies; *cough* Color Club *cough* put labels with the shade names on your polishes. All of your polishes. Please! It is so frustrating to buy a collection that has no names on the bottles or packaging. And just as bad is having names that are in the wrong order and some are the wrong names. So please, pretty please, put labels with the shade names on all of your bottles!

Okay, now that I have that off my chest. lol Thank you so much for popping in. Have a great evening and may your polish never bubble.

Mini Big Lots Haul

Hello gentle readers. I hope that you had a good weekend and those of you in the snow are staying warm and safe.

Thank you for your kind remarks in comments on my last post. You are all so sweet. <3

So, today I was in Big Lots and my husband and I were drifting around the store, looking as stuff and chatting. I had it in the back of my mind that a lot of people are now finding Revlon Purplex at their local Big Lots, now. I wasn't really expecting to see it there. After all, none of my local drugstores, Target, Walmart or other retailers had it from the time it first hit the shelves months ago. why would I expect it to be in my local Big Lots? I got over to the beauty section and... There it was. A Purplex display. With four bottles in it. Priced at one dollar a bottle.

I don't think I need to tell you what I did. Oh, yeah. Piggy, here. *oink! oink!* I grabbed all four bottles. I am almost embarrassed and ashamed of myself for being greedy. Almost. ^^

I also found a Wet-n-Wild Wild Shine in Black Creme for a buck and a LA Colours Art Deco striper in Intense Pink for a dollar, too. I thought it might make a nice stamping polish, in addition to striping. There were some Loreal Jet Set duos for two quid a piece that looked interesting but I didn't have a lot of extra money to be blowing on polish, today so I decided to content myself with my hoggish little haul, paid for my goodies and got out of there.

Funny how no stores in my area had Purplex all this time, then they show up at Big Lots. Oh well, I have the polish, now. And, I paid a lot less for it than I would have at CVS or Wag's. So, it was worth waiting for. :D

An Early Valentine's Themed Mani

Hello gentle readers.

It is February and that means hearts and love and Valentines abound. Now, they are showing up on my fingertips. I did a simple Valentine's themed manicure, today. Red, white, some stamped hearts and a couple of sparkly red heart shaped stones.

My base colour is a red Color Club polish I bought in a box set from Ross. There were no manes or numbers on the bottles or package so I have no clue what name this polish is. It is a nice red crelly, opaque in two coats. Slightly fussy, but levels nicely and is shiny and slightly squishy looking. It is a blue red, but it photographs warmer. I have no clue why. lol If anyone knows what this polish is named, I would love to know. Tho it isn't a life or death thing. I can go with "Red". :D

I stamped with Sinful Snow Me White with a Konad and a BM plates. Then I added a little red crystal heart on my ring finger nails. Topped it all with Seche.

I like this polish. Another red to add to the family.

I have decided that it is time to purchase some stamping polish. Regular white, pink and so forth just doesn't give me a nice, bright, clear image. As soon as my budget loosens up a little I am going to get some basic stamping polish colours. I think I will like how my manicures come out, better.

It is a little warmer, today. We have a window open and it is nice to have some fresh air in the house.

Thank you so much for popping in. Have a great weekend and may your polish never bubble.

Some Recent Hauls

Hello gentle readers. It has been a little while. I have been busy than a one armed paper hanger. But I did find time to photograph my recent hauls. I have been a little busy buying. Some local and some from Amazon. My untried box is almost as big as my tried. Never thought that would happen! lol

The three OPI Summer Flutter polishes I was lusting after. Wing it, Catch Me in Your Net, Flower to Flower.

My first Essies. Lapis of Luxury. Mint Candy Apple, Demure Vixen and Lilacism.

China Glaze Dorothy Who? and Grape Juice.

 Orly Luxe and Royal Navy.

 Revlon Lilac and Grape.

OPI Simmer and Shimmer, Sparklelicious and Yogata Get This Blue.

It is way too easy to order polishes from Amazon. And so far, the vendors I have ordered from have been really super, shipping fast and polishes arriving in perfect condition. It is nice to have a reliable source for polish I want and can't find locally.

I really, really want the new China Glaze Spring collection and I may just go ahead and order it from Trans Design or VNS. I have never bought an entire collection, before but I can't think of any of those colours I wouldn't want and love.
I am out of control. lol

I think it is time to start doing Valentine's themed manicures. I have a new Color Club red eating it's head off in my untried box and some pretty heart shaped crystals and stamping plates...
This is going to be fun. :D

Thank you so much for popping in, Stay warm and may your polish never bubble.
