A Couple of "Techie" Questions

Hello gentle readers. I hope that your weekend is rocking. :)

I have a couple of questions for all of you; I am hoping that some of you will have answers for me and can help. My puter skillz and Google fu fail me.

First, I am thinking of changing my comments system from the one provided by Blogger. It isn't that I think it is a bad comment system but I would love to have one in place that I can moderate comments as they come in and reply to them, in line then publish everything so that I don't miss any comments. I am trying to be better about responding to all of the comments I receive and I want to do a better job of it.

So, for those of you who use another comments system, which do you use? Is it easy to use? Do your readers like the system you use? Was it easy to install and does it work seamlessly with your blog? Easy installation must be super simple, as I can't do code and I won't risk killing my blog by digging around in it's brain. I can do simple things with HTML, as long as I have a detailed step by step, it is easy and I am not going to risk my blog.

Second, I want to delete some old posts. And I am happy to let the comments go with them. (Just old giveaway posts. Not anything important.) If I delete the posts, will the comments go with them? Or will they still be here and I'll have to hunt them down on the Comment tab on my dashboard? If anyone knows, please to help and zap me with a clue?

Thank you sooo much for any answers and help you can pass along. I really appreciate it! <333

Seriously, computer shit makes me feel like this:

  1. Comments will get deleted when you delete a post. No need to hunt them down. I use Disqus and I like it. I haven't had any problems and it was very easy to install and such.

  2. I use Intense Debate for comments. It and Disqus are similar. Intense Debate has set-by-step instructions on how to install it and gives you the simple gadget option or the more intricate HTML option, but I think both are easy to follow.

  3. I use intense debate and I really like it. I was having a huge problem with readers not being able to comment on the blogger system - nor being able to follow the site. Somehow these problems magically disappeared with intense debate. The only issue I have with it is that it deleted my old comments, even after I told it not to - ie. clicking the appropriate button. This has been a problem for some other bloggers as well. This wasn't a huge issue for me as I am a new blogger, but for you with such a history, it is certainly something to think about. I have heard that the disqus software can be invasive, which is why I chose intense debate. It was incredibly easy to install.

  4. I use Disqus and I like it. It was super easy to install (I'm not good with the tech stuff either) and I can reply to each comment individually. I really like the way it looks too, very simple and clean.

  5. I'm another Disqus user, and I really like it.

  6. Another Intense Debate user here, and I love it. I'm not very techie, and found it simple to install. I tried Disqus, but found that I just plain liked how Intense Debate looked, more.

  7. Thank you for your answer, Kris. I successfully and painlessly removed those posts and Disqus was easy to install. Amazingly so! :D

  8. Thank you so much for your help. After looking both of them over and debating the pros and cons, I decided to try Disqus. If it turns out that I am not wild about it, I'll try Intense Debate.

    *muah!*

  9. After looking both of them over and taking into account the possibility of losing my comments (unacceptable!) I decided to try Disqus. So far, so good. If I decide I don't like it, tho I can switch.

Thank you so much for your answer and sharing your experience. I appreciate it. :D

  10. I too chose Disqus. It is so easy to install! Register and click and move a widget. Even I can do that! lol Thank you so much for your answer and input. :)

  11. Thank you so much for your reply. I am now a Disqus (had to add that to my dictionary, spell check was driving me nuts with that word! lol) user and so far, so good. And I easily imported my comments, too. They are all there! Yay!

  12. Thank you for your reply and your experience, Shelby. I decided on Disqus, since some people have lost all of their comments with Intense Debate and that was a risk I am not willing to take. I have had this blog for a while and would hate to lose all of my lovely readers' thoughts.

If I decide that Disqus isn't for me, after all, I will consider Intense Debate, tho. :D

  13. I use intense debate and comment luv myself. I hate this disqus system and don't usually comment on blogs that have them. It's just harder to use than other commenting systems. Of course it's your blog but I was letting you know my opinion.

  14. Thank you for your input, Fingers. :) Disqus doesn't bother me and I chose it because I didn't want to risk losing all of my comments. I hope that you will continue to read and to comment and that Disqus doesn't cause you too much difficulty.

I don't have any help...but I had to comment on  your spazzed out Kermit.  OMG it made me laugh!  And I'm with you - computer problems make me feel that way, too.  LOL

  16. Heh heh! I love that gif. I have had it floating around on my hard drive for forever. I drag it out now and again, when the occasion calls for it. I see it online, every now and then so I know that I am not the only person who needs to use it. lol Snag it if you like it! I got it from one of those snag it if you like it sites, so I assume it is fine to share it. :D
