Manicure of the Moment: Sephora by OPI Mash-Up

Hello gentle readers. Happy Tuesday! :D

Today's mani is an interesting polish. This is Sephora by OPI Mash-Up. I received this polish in a giveaway package that I was lucky enough to win from the lovely Janna who owns and writes the blog Clever and Colorful. If you haven't yet, please take a stroll over and say hey. :D Sephora by OPI Mash-Up is part of their Glee Collection that was released earlier this year. I have never seen Glee so I don't grok the connection between the colour, the name and the TV show. But I do grok pretty polish. And this is one.

Mash-Up is a silver grey base with duochrome colour shifting pigments that show green, purple and, in some light, magenta. I own another polish that is very similar, Wet-N-Wild Grey's Anatomy. It is also a silvery grey base with duochrome pigments. Sephora by OPI Mash-Up is different, it has more duochrome pigment, giving it a more intense colour shift and it has the added happiness of silver micro shimmer particles and tiny silver glitter that really bump up the sparkle and shine of this polish.

I applied two coats of Mash-Up and topped it with a coat of Revlon Quick Dry top coat. Then I took photographs. Lots and lots of photographs. Sadly, in spite of all of the shots I took, I wasn't able to fully capture the beauty and depth and complexity of this polish. So frustrated, am I. Seriously. My photographs fell far short and flat. I did the best I could and I suggest clicking these photos to fully enlarge them to get as much of the fun and pretty as I was able to capture.

Prepare for lots of pictures. These were all shot in direct early morning sun.

Sephora by OPI Mash-Up has the lovely OPI formula; smooth, not too thin, not too thick, flows off the brush to sit right down where it is placed without running, streaking, dragging or bubbling. Like some gals I know, this polish looks like a bit of an edgy bad girl but it has the heart of a true lady. I had very minimal cleanup, mostly just fussbudget refining. Dry time is fast; this polish was dry to a gentle touch as soon as I finished one hand and started on the next. My only gripe, and it is minor, is that the shimmer in this polish makes it a bit brushstroke-y. Top coat smooths some of that out, but some remains. I got a smooth, nearly perfectly opaque finish in two coats. I suppose three would have made it perfectly opaque, but since I am on good terms with my VNL, I didn't waste the time or polish to do a third.

I do wish that the Sephora by OPI polishes also had that fabulous Pro Wide brush that I love, love, love sooo much. If anyone from OPI reads this (yeah... right! tee hee) see what you can do about that, mmmkaay?

So, do you own this polish? Do you love it? Do you grok the connection between the colour, name and Glee? Care to zap me with a clue?

Okay, it is getting hotter than Satan's ass crack in here, so it is time for me to go turn on the A/C. Whoof! August sucks. In about a month or so, it should start cooling off pretty nicely. I can't wait!

Thank you all so much for popping in and spending a little time with me. Stay cool, kids and may your polish never bubble.

  1. this looks awesome on you! =] and a Mash Up is when you put two songs into one, like going back and forth between them. Glee does that a lot! I'm glad you like the polish! I wish it had the Pro Wide brush too!

  2. I don't own this polish and have two sephora by opi: just a little dangerous and domestic goddess.

I do have metallic silver and a sparkling top coat over it looks amazing

  4. Brittany, I think I need more polishes by this brand. Stat! :D If the rest of the line is as nice as this one, I will be a happy polisher, indeed.

  5. Ooooh pretty. I think I might settle for Grey's Anatomy though, since it is far cheaper!
