Manicure of the Moment

Hello fellow nail fanatics. How's stuff?

It's been a few since I was last here... I am not polishing very often thanks to the nubbins from hell. But I finally got enough tip wear to have to change my polish.

I did a quick mani with Essence Colour and Go in VIP Appeal. Nice, bright, pretty coral. Easy application, opaque in two. Topped with China Glaze Fast Forward. I like this polish and am kinda bummed that it is just a mini and I only have another use or two left in the bottle.

Urgh! I wish that these nubbins would grow, already! At lest I finally got my middle finger nail leveled off. It doesn't look all cockeyed, anymore.

Anyone else roasting in record high temps? We are. And I have to tell ya, I am sooo over this heat! Thankfully, it is supposed to cool off, next week.

Okay, chickadees. I have to motor. Thanks for popping in and have a great evening and may your polish never bubble. :D

Call the Waaaaahhhhmbulance!

I knew I needed to be careful, I knew that the slider window in my dining room can be stiff and I have to pull it carefully. I wasn't. I didn't.

I ended up with this:

Waaaaahhhhh!!!!!

*sigh*  I was cosing that damned window and it stayed in place and my hand kept on going and since my fingers were curled around the frame, my middle and ring fingernails on my left hand were ripped right down nearly to the quick. I was madder than a wet hen and the air turned blue with my expressions of dismay. Sadly, bits of my nails went flying and I couldn't find them, and the tearing of my middle finger nail made repair an impossibility. When I break nails, I do it right. lol

As you can see in the above photo, my middle finger nail got the worst of the event. It tore very badly and it was impossible to even it out, completely. If I had attempted to get it any more even, I would have drawn blood. In a week or so, it should be grown out enough to even it out. Until then, it is pale pink all the way.

I am so disappointed. My nails were just getting to feeling a little long, again and I was happier with them, then this happened. I thought about possibly leaving the rest of my nails long, but I just couldn't. Having two nubbins and eight longer would have driven me insane.

*heavy sigh*

Ah well. Such is life. And my nails will grow. They always do. But I am starting all over for the second time in just weeks and I am not all that thrilled about it.

Okay, on that depressing note, I am going to go. I think I will cheer myself up by checking out your blogs and looking at your lovely pictures.

Thank you for popping in, have a great night and may your polish never bubble. And be careful when closing those windows, girls. ;)

Manicure of the Moment and My First Nail Video

Hello my little gumdrops of Autumn.

Today it is 80 degrees and sunny, feels a lot more like early Summer than Autumn. And in the week ahead, we are supposed to get more days in the nineties. Blech! Arizona sucks.

But since I am feeling Autumnal, I decided to do a manicure to reflect that. I applied two coats of Orly Enchanted Forest, a dreamy creamy warm dark forest green. Then I topped it with a coat of Sinful Colors It's All About You, a gold, bronze and red foil glitter in a clear base. I topped the entire production with China Glaze Fast Forward.

Indoors, natural light with no flash.

Outdoors in direct sun.

And now, for the event we have all been waiting for...

(Yeah, right... lol)

My first ever attempt at a video. I have an older, not so fancy digital camera that can make short, silent video. I have never attempted to use this feature before today and I have never read up on the process, I just hit the menu on my camera, selected movie and winged it. The quality blows, it needs to be edited but that is something I need to learn how to do on my 'puter. But, I am kind of slightly jazzed that I was able to figure out how to do what I did by just flying by the seat of my pants. :D

So, grab some popcorn, get a soda, nab a box of Junior Mints and enjoy the show. And please be kind?

Thank you for popping by. Have a lovely day and may your polish never bubble.

Paint Transfer! Eeep!

You know how it is... You paint your nails a gorgeous, deep colour, gloss it with top coat and clean it up to look as fabulous as you possibly can.

Then it happens... You are walking down the hall, doing a little housework, making a bed and you brush your hand against the wall, door frame or corner trim and a little while later you look down and there it is. A streak of wall paint on one or more of your nails.

Crap! And double crap! Now what?

Well, for me, it would have meant removing my polish and re doing my manicure. When it happened to me this morning, I thought I would be doing a fresh mani but before I started cleaning my polish off, I thought I would try to just remove the paint, it's self. I tried buffing it off with a cloth. No dice. So, I decided to try a little acetone on a Q-Tip and cleaning it off. I dampened a Q-Tip with acetone and oh, so gently and carefully burnished the transferred paint off my nail. This didn't ruin the finish of my polish, just dulled it, slightly. After application of a fresh coat of top coat, my nail looked just as good as new.

Later after I did all of my housework, I looked at my nails to see how my polish held up to all of the work I did (it held up beautifully, by the way) and lo and behold, two more nails had paint transfer on them. Bleargh! lol

I did the acetone on the Q-Tips thing, applied fresh top coat to those nails and all is well in nail land.

You probably all knew how to do this, already but I thought that if there were anyone who didn't, my experience might benefit you. :D

Okay, thank you for popping in. Have a fabulous day and may your polish never bubble.

Manicure of the Moment

Hello there. Howz trix?

Today's manicure is China Glaze Ravishing, Dahling. I saw this polish in this post by Megan Chair and I knew the instant I saw it in her photographs that I had to have it. So the next time I found myself in Sally's this polish just jumped into my basket. Ravishing, Dahling (don't you just love that name?) is a deep wine red jelly. It can look a little brown in some light but it is definitely red. And it is not at all blackened or vampy. It is just... Stunning. Smashing. Splendid.

This polish is a tad thin, I needed three coats to get it this opaque. I could probably have done four but I just didn't have the time. I topped this with China Glaze Fast Forward. But not for shine. This stuff is mad shiny and squishy without it. But I am supposed to use top coat so I use top coat. :D

I do want to caution anyone who wants to get this polish... If you are a sloppy polisher like me who relies on a good clean up session to get a nice, neat finish, watch out for this stuff. It is highly pigmented and  clean up is a stone biatch. I am not saying don't get this polish. I am just saying paint carefully. lol

Would you like to see pictures?

Taken indoors in natural light through my window. No flash.

Outdoors in direct sun, no flash.

If you enlarge these pictures, you will see the deep, under the surface bubbling. I have a shit load of it, in this manicure. The bubbles don't show except very up close, so I am not worried about them too much but... Dang! It is kind of looking into a glass of carbonated blood. Guess I overworked things a bit. The humidity that has snuck in might have something to do with it, too.

So, what do you think? Is a nice red jelly your thing? If it is, you need this polish. Trust me. :D

Thank you so much for coming by. Have a fantabulous evening and may your polish never bubble.

Manicure of the Moment

ARRRR!!! Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day to ye, ye landlubbers!

Today's manicure is one I am not sure how to feel about. I used Sinful Colors Rise and Shine. A Kelly green creme bordering on neon with hidden silver shimmer.

I want to love this polish but I am having trouble doing so, right now. It isn't so much the colour but the polish, it's self. When I opened it, the polish on the brush wand looked very translucent so I was expecting thin, sheer-ish polish but what came out of the bottle on the brush it's self was thick, gloopy and a bit streaky and unhappy to work with.

I got an opaque finish in two thick, rather unpleasant coats. This polish dries like a neon, to a satin finish. Top coat makes it madly shiny and helps to bring out the hidden silver microshimmer. I think that hidden shimmer is this polish's saving grace at the moment. It is what is making me think that I should give it another chance. Thin it and see if that helps. I might do that. I hate to give up on a polish. I think, deep down inside of me resides a skinflint, just waiting to break free and she wants to give this stuff another chance, too. If, after that it is still a mess, out it goes. In the discard pile. And to hell with the skinflint. lol

Okay, after I painted on two coats of this goop, I topped it with China Glaze Fast Forward. (The jury is still out on that stuff, too. GRRR! I mean... ARRRR!!!) Then I did cleanup and decided to kill off some flower decal stickers I had lying around so I dropped them all over my nails in a random manner. They kind of perk this polish up and I thought it would be fun to do one more blatantly Summery manicure before Fall sets in and I get all Autumnal on my nails. :D

Which reminds me... It is about time to change my blog background, isn't it? :D

ARRR!!! Would ye like to be seein' some pictures then, maties?

Indoor light, no flash. This stuff photographs lighter than it is in person. I think that the white base in so many cremes and neons, lately makes the colour wash out in photographs. Or, maybe I am just nuttier than a fruitcake. lol

This annoyingly unfocused shot is here because it is a tad bit more colour accurate than the other photos.
ARRRR!!! Me eyes! They can't be a focusin'. Me shoulder parrot is wantin' some glasses.

Outdoors in the sunshine. See the shimmer? The potential of this polish? That is why I am not ready to consign it to oblivion, just yet.

More sunshiny goodness.

Cropped to get a closeup on the bottle and the shimmer. ARRR!!! As always, you may click any pic to get a better look at the goings on.

I had a loose decal sticker edge on my middle finger nail. I saw it when I started cropping these shots and have since glued it down with a little top coat.

I really wish I could have captured more colour accurate shots of this polish. It is not minty or even as blue as my photographs make it look. It really is green. And a good little bit darker.

I wonder if an OTT Light would help. I would like to pick one up one day when I have a few spare sheckles rattling around. It would be nice for photographing my nails on cloudy days and in the Winter when the light is, frankly lousy.

Okay, so there it is. My manicure of the moment.

Thank you so much for popping in, maties! Have yerselves a treasure chest filled with beautiful polishes Talk Like a Pirate Day.

And my yer polish never be a bubblin'.

ARRRR!!!

(Arrrrren't you glad that this particular day only rolls around once a year?:P)

Manicure of the Moment

Hello there. :D

I just realised how long it has been since I last posted. I have been busy and my last manicure lasted pretty nicely and I didn't have any swatches to post.

Today's nails is a departure from all of the dark, vampy colours I have been sporting. lately. I did a fast, simple look with two coats of OPI Kiss on the Chic and a coat of Sinful Colors Pinkie Glitter. I topped it all with a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward. I am test driving it to see how it stacks up against Seche Vite. As much as I love Seche, and you know I loves my Seche, I am a little mad at them, right now. The price at my local Sally Beauty took a pretty sharp uptick. By more than two dollars. So I decided to try the China Glaze. I'll let you know what I think after I use it a few times.

 Indoor light without flash.
 Outdoors in direct sun.
Close up of the bottle in the sun. There wasn't really any reason to post that one. I just did it for fun.

The OPI polish I used is a fave of mine. Squishy pink sheer. Love it madly.

The Sinful glitter is a Barbie/bubblegum pink base packed with different sizes of glitter from micro to regular size. It flashes in silver, gold and different colours. Application is a bit of a pain as the base tends to be gloopy and thick and it wants to pool in drips on the edges of my nails. I think I will thin it a bit before I use it next time. That should make it a little more pleasant to use.

Ah, pink. :D
Thank you for popping in. Have a great evening and may your polish never bubble.

Manicure of the Moment and A Little Haul

Hello there. :D

Today's manicure is the mind meltingly beautiful Orly Galaxy Girl. I ran into Sally to pick up a few things and ended up getting this polish at my husband's urging when he saw me slavering over it. lol

What can I say about this polish that hasn't already been said? How can I rave in a way that hasn't already been raved? I think I will just give with the pictures. :D

Top two shots are in shade, the rest in sun. I tried to get the different colours and shifts that this polish does. I think I caught some of it. But seriously, this stuff is best viewed in person. Photographs just don't do it justice.  But you can click to enlarge and get a real eyeful of the pretty. :D

Sorry there was only one straight on shot. The rest of them didn't come out, for some strange reason. I think I am wearing out my poor little camera. lolol

Like most Orly polishes, this one is a sweetheart to use. Two coats to smooth opacity. It was a bit of a pain to clean up. If I had known it would be, I would have been a little more careful. lol I topped this with Seche and that just adds to the shine and shimmer.

I did a little haul, yesterday. In addition ot my Sally purchases, I popped into Walgreen's and snagged some Sinfuls. They are ninety-nine cents, no coupon, no limit. I got eight. :D

Haul shot. :D From the left, Seche Vite, China Glaze Fast Forward (I have been reading good things about this top coat and I thought I would give it a whirl.) China Glaze Ravishing Dahling, Orly Galaxy Girl, Sinful Fiji, San Francisco, See You Soon, Pinkie Glitter, Nail Junkie, Hottie, Secret Admirer, Rise and Shine.

So, there you have it. My nails, today and my little haul.

Thank you for popping in, have a great night and may your polish never bubble. :D

Manicure of the Moment

Hello Ladies.

Today I have one of the Ulta Glam Goth Collection polishes to show you. This is For Bitten. A black base packed with colour shifting fine glitter. In the bottle, the glitter shifts from magenta to almost purple to burgundy to bronze to green. It is a magical mystery tour when you look at the bottle. Sadly, that tour doesn't extend to the nail. Don't get me wrong, it is still plenty pretty and shimmery and all that good stuff. But I don't get that duo chrome dance on the nail.

I like this colour. It is dark and the glitter is sort of "down in", smoldering. Then when direct sun hits it, insanity rules as this stuff sparkles and shines like mad. :D

Like the other polish from this collection I have tried, this one flows easily and smoothly into place on the nails. The brush is wide and easy to use, even tho it is short. I had perfect coverage on all nails after two coats. Some nails were done in one, but I wanted them to all be even so all nails got two coats. Clean up was kinda okay. I have had easier clean up. I have had more difficult. I topped this manicure with Seche.

The top photo was taken indoors, the rest in the sun. I tried and tried to get the beautiful colours that shift all over the surface of the bottle, depending on the light and the angle at which it is viewed but I wasn't very successful. You can see green and bronze. But sadly I couldn't get my camera to capture the purple and magenta. I got a blur pic to help show the sparkle and I cropped a bottle close up. You can click to see more detail.

So, what do you think? Do you own this polish? Have you had better luck capturing the beautiful colours that it can throw up to the eye?

Thank you for popping in. Have a fabulous day and may your polish never bubble. :D

Swatchity-Swatch

Hello lovebugs.

Today I have a swatch of a polish that I wanted so. much! to love but I just can't like it. It is another Borghese, but because it is a mini, I don't know what the shade name is.

Please click to get a better look at the sparkly. :)

Brown base with silver, gold and red glitter. Four coats to get it opaque. I suspect it would make a better layering polish. If I were inclined to wear it, again. Which I won't. The little bottle will just grace my mini carousel.

Thank you for stopping in. Have a great day and may your polish never bubble. :D

Manicure of the Moment

Hello there. :D How's tricks?

It is a lovely day, here. The wind has shifted and it blew away the humidity and the clouds and the sticky Monsoon feeling from the air. It is now brilliantly sunny, very breezy and the temperature is nearly perfect. No A/C required, thankyouverymuch.

It is a perfect day to show this polish. I recently won a mini franken in a giveaway held by Scandalous and I received it the other day. Since I had a fairly fresh manicure, I waited until it needed to be changed to try this new polish.

As I mentioned, this is a franken and I have absolutely no clue what polishes she used to mix this colour. It is genius. Grey duo chrome colour shifter that shows purple and teal, too. Out in the sun, this polish transforms, morphs into a whole new creature. It goes from just grey to a dark slate grey-blue, the shift hides away behind holographic shimmer that dances in the bright light.

Taken indoors without flash.

Taken outdoors in direct sun, no flash. You can, as always, click the pictures to enlarge and get a real eyeful of just how pretty this stuff is. (Within the scope of my so-so photographic skillz. ;))

This polish is not super shiny, but it is highly reflective. To the point that I was showing up way too well in many of the photos I took of this manicure and I had to jettison those photographs. lol

The formula of this polish is lovely. It was almost a one coater. In the hands of a better painter than I, I believe it could be. In spite of the tiny brush, this polish applied like butter, smoothly, evenly with just a hint of brush strokes, which are so subtle, they don't bother me. I topped this with Seche, of course. :D

I want a big bottle of this polish. I want a fifty-five gallon drum of this polish. I know that I won't ever get them... This is a special little bit of pretty that I am going to make last as long as I possibly can and enjoy to the fullest. Thank you again, Scandalous. You hit a home run on this one.

Okay, there you have it. Thank you so much for popping by, today. I hope that you enjoyed the pictures. Have a terrific day and may your polish never bubble.

Swatchity-Swatch

Ahhh... Borghese. I have four minis, my first experience with this lovely brand.

Today I am showing Borghese Stellare Notte. (Okay, I just know I butchered the spelling of this name, but I didn't have a written reference, I am trying to fly from memory. Spelling aside, this is pretty, pretty, pretty polish. Now, I know that I am not telling you something you didn't already know. This polish has been blogged all over the place and back again. But I am so gassed with it, I am showing it, again.

Grey. Like a Tahitian pearl. With a multicoloured orient in tones of teal and purple, even some blue and green. Easy to apply, easy to clean up. Amazingly nice brush for a mini. I need a full sized bottle of this polish.

I need a huge bottle of this polish.

These were taken indoors, with flash and outdoors in direct sun. This polish shifts and changes with the light and at different angles. It is magical and I am in love with it. Please click the pictures to get a close up of the pretty.

Thank you for popping in. Have a great day and may your polish never bubble. :D

Manicure of the Moment

Hey there. :D

Happy Labour Day. I hope that you are having a great holiday.

I finally made a decision about my nails and I am now the proud owner of ten little nubbins. I just couldn't stand having nine long and one very short nail. It was driving me in. sane! And, since I had a couple of nails on my right hand that were patched and filing them down would get rid of the patches, the decision was clear for me.

After cutting my nails down and filing them into shape, I painted them with an unnamed Funky Fingers mini polish. This polish is a pretty, very pigmented purple jelly/creme with purple and teal microshimmer and a larger fuchsia fleck. The formula was very nice, opaque in two coats and amazingly easy to control and to clean up. The brush, however drove me slightly crazy. If this were a full sized polish, I would decant it into a cleaned out bottle with a much better brush. :D I topped this polish with Seche Vite.

All of the above photos were taken in full sun. I tried to get indoor pics without flash, but for some reason, it was impossible to get a clearly focused shot. And I took a lot. And deleted almost all of them. *sigh* If you click, you can get a good gander at the shimmer and glitter fleck in this polish. Like most purples, this polish photographed more blue but it is a true purple.

Sorry about the smudgy bottle. I can't keep from making a mess of the bottle if I moisturise my hands after my manicure. How do you experts keep the bottle perfectly clean and show beautifully moisturised skin, too?

I am not super thrilled about being back to nubbins, but I am okay with it. Now that I know how to properly care for and grow my nails, I don't freak out when I have to shorten them, thinking that I will never get them to grow, again.

Thank you for dropping in, have a terrific day and may your polish never bubble. :D
