Okay, then... Today I have China Glaze Orange Knockout (neon) to show you. This is one of the polishes I received in my prize package from Kris. This polish is a bright, bright orange. It is very sheer. I applied three thick coats and it isn't anywhere near opaque. This stuff couldn't be opaque if it wished on a star to be so. It really needs a coat of white under it to cover properly and really give off that neon glow. Sadly, the only white polish I own at present is Sally Hansen X-Treme Wear in White On and I like it not. It is too thick, gloopy, gloppy, streaky, bubbly and takes an eternity to dry. Now, that might be my fault... I have read the experiences of some gals who adore the stuff, so... *shrug*
I like this colour. It is just the right shade of orange to suit my skin tone, especially since I am presently sporting a light tan. (Yes, I know that tanning is The Evil. This is my Summer of "I don't give a shit about sun protection".) The formula is thin. And it flooded all of my cuticles like crazy. I thought I was going to have to call Noah in, for a while, there. I had to do a ton of clean up when I finished this manicure, thankfully, this polish cleans up like a dream and it didn't take me long, at all. I had little bubbling, it went on easily and only looked streaky on the first coat. Methinks this is a neon jelly... It dried a bit more shiny than other neons I have had experience with. And handled more easily, too. I topped this polish with a nice coat of Seche.
I might do something to cover the nail lines or convert this to a funky French. The VNL is beginning to drive me a little bonkers. lol What I need to do is suss out a really good white polish that won't give me so danged much trouble as the Sally Hansen does so that I will ave a good base for this colour and for doing French tips and so forth.
Okay, okay. Shutting up and giving with the pictures, now. I only have two. The batteries are low in my camera and I didn't know how much juice I had left for shooting and uploading.
Taken indoors in natural light. No flash. This polish photographs less sheer than in person. The VNL is actually very pronounced. Also, it doesn't photograph as bright and saturated as it really is. This is a bright, bright traffic cone orange.
Taken indoors with flash. Look at what flash does to this stuff. It looks like insipid orange juice. Nothing like the actual colour.
I couldn't like China Glaze High Voltage Pink, no matter how many times I tried and ended up passing it along to a fellow polish fanatic. But I really do like this shade. Perhaps I am not ready to write off neons, after all.
Stay cool, girls. And may your polish be bubble free. :D
*Which* I just put on my toesies on top of X-treme's Fuchia Power.
ReplyDeleteI've come to conclude that after owning several bottles of the "X-treme" line... I don't like them. They really represent the concept "You get what you pay for" as far as I'm concerned. But I'll put just about anything on my toes because I just don't care as much. :3
Hehe. I'm glad that you are enjoying the Pink Voltage. :D
ReplyDeleteI have some very inexpensive polishes (my Sinfuls, for example) that are just lovely. And some that are junk. I think that happens, no matter what the price range. :)
